Coolest Car and The Little Rocker

May I present the winner of "The Coolest Car" award for the Pinewood Derby. :)

We went and watched the races, saw TMNT, and then rocked out with Guitar Hero II (most of us had never played). Jac got in the act, and these photos are mostly for her dad.

The Worm without the Earth

On my way in to work, this poor earthworm was stuck to the door. It looked like someone drove through a puddle and literally splashed him/it up onto the door.

I got totally distracted and watched it for a long time. Tenaciously trying to find its way back down. Amazing what they can do.

And, yes, I did rescue it, eventually...

Jacque and Me

Time for a pic of me. So, here's Jac's little hand trying to convince me to do who knows what exactly...

Crowned Con

Conner finally held still long enough for me to get a good picture of him. Of course it had to be slightly silly... ;-)
Here's the second least blurry--him and his "long john" car. :)

And Lacey, who I've heard is too easy. :o)

Freshly Washed Green

This is in Topeka, behind a strip mall--just after a lovely spring rain.

And here are Jac's post-nap faces for today:

Bringing May Flowers

I think the truth is that I'm obsessed with clouds, not sunsets or sunrises... These were taken this morning on the way to work.

By 3 o'clock or so things had darkened into a wonderful spring rainstorm (a little thunder, but nothing too spectacular).
After we finally got the magazine put to bed today, I walked away from my desk out the front door. The rain smelled so good--I was simply unable to resist walking out into it. When I left the safety of the front overhang, it was sprinkling some, but by the time I turned the corner of the building it started pouring in earnest. :) So, I've had my first soaking of 2007--it was wonderful (if a bit chilly), and my coworkers were amused.

Hooking Flesh

I was humbled and flabbergasted and just plain shocked to receive this yesterday. It is a really cool period thing. It is a flesh hook, used in the middle ages for removing from meat from the fire.

It is also a Queen's Endorsement of Distinction for the Ideals of the Society from HRM Caillin of Calontir.

[Ed.: There are now pics of me getting this in the Crescent Moon gallery.]

Worlds Collide

Calontir Coronation but the Outlands Crown... And they brought Balthazar and Charlie with them. :o)

Other random images from the event:

SCA in the bleachers amused me greatly.

Pretty little Norse girl playing in the sand (aka the long jump pit).

One more of SCA fighting on the football field.

A Daffodil Day

Today I found the way back to my spring joy. The satisfaction of work well done, and a weekend with friends to look forward to. Daffodils in the parking lot to reflect my friend-joy in living color.

Spring Green

One of the (many) things I love about spring... You're driving down the road (I do that a lot) and one day all the trees are brown, and the next, it's like there's a green mist that's starting to take over. That color *is* spring to me, and this morning I saw the first glimpses of it--strangely, in the convenience store parking lot.

It always brings up a very clear picture of a portion of I-80 in Nebraska for some reason...

And here's what's been ruling my work life for the last couple of months (color proofs of the magazine):

Magnolia Sunset

Taken in Khaentlahn and K.C.'s yard just as the sun was starting to fade.

After a windy Kansas day.

Tripartite

One of the coolest things about bananas is that they are a tripartite fruit. While I was eating this one, it suddenly dawned on me that it was kinda lily-like. So, I present fleur-de-banana. (Yes, I'm desperate, and yes, I own a couch with pink flowers on it--it was free.)

Sharing My Woods

Today I got to take Max and Ethan to the woods on the farm. We had great fun. I mentioned the fossils that I used to find there, and a few feet farther Max said, "I think I found one!" And he had. I really enjoyed sharing it with them.

A couple of other random images of where I grew up:

And, of course, the sunset over Topeka (be sure and check out Khaentlahn's version, too). . .
